We didn’t start Cowsmetics because we wanted to run a skincare brand. We started it because we couldn’t find anything on the market that we truly trusted to put on our own skin. Both of us have always struggled with dry, sensitive skin — and the more we learned about modern cosmetics, the more shocked we were. Products full of unnecessary fillers, seed oils, preservatives, and chemicals our skin doesn’t recognise… and in some cases, ingredients that have been shown to be harmful. So we went back to what our grandparents used.

When we were little, our grandmothers used to moisturise our dry skin with pure beef fat. It worked then — and it still works now. Our ancestors relied on tallow for thousands of years because it’s safe, simple, and incredibly nourishing. Somehow, modern beauty forgot that. One day, my girlfriend wanted to buy a tallow balm for €25. I looked at the ingredients and said, “No way. I’ll make you one myself.” That one jar started everything.
